I have gone through multiple news articles wherein
Sikhs (“thugs”) are blamed for stopping interfaith marriage in “Gurudwara”.
Majority of these articles quote ‘Sunny Hundal’ who does not have a ‘Singh’ in
his name. I am not here to mention how pure, impure or semi-pure Sikh SunnyHundal is. That is none of my business!
I am here to put forth few points which will prove
that how dubious he is. These questions are purely based on the ‘Posts’ he has
been posting on his Facebook page. So, here we go
1) How
many posts has he posted in support of the protest of Bapu Surat Singh? I think
the count is ‘Zero’. No, I am not blaming him for not posting anything about
Bapuji. But not sure, what could like to hear from him about the reason for not
posting anything about Bapuji. Bapuji is on hunger strike for more than 6
months now. Every Sikh is aware of this fact and Sunny ji is keeping ‘mum’ on
this topic. I guess such posts does not get too many ‘Likes’ and ‘Comments’ and
does not create a ‘Masala’ topic for news and government agencies. Stopping of
interfaith marriage immediately made him a humble Sikh and he became preacher
of Sikh ideologies. What happened to him and his Sikh ideologies in case of
Bapuji.
2) In
his post he is saying that he ‘try and fight against global injustices’? How
many articles has he written about 1984 Sikh Genocide by Indian government,
1984 Indian attack on Golden Temple or any other protest which Sikhs have done
to gain basic justice and human rights in India? I think the count is ‘Zero’. Sunny
ji, would you like to share if Indian agencies played any role to keep your
mouth shut and not post anything related to that protest?
3) In
his post he mentioned the principles of Guru Gobind Singhji i.e. fighting
injustice and defenders of the peace. I think he forgot another principle of
Guru Gobind Singh i.e. preserving the honor and sanctity of Guru Granth Sahib
Ji. Sunnyji, if you are Namdhari, Nirankari or Deravdi, then your guru would be
some ‘Baba’. Perhaps, you can ask couples to go around these ‘Babas’ and
conduct their marriage.
Anand Karaj is
for Sikhs and it is the very first step of newlywed couple to come closer to
Sikhi and Guru Granth Sahibji together and not as individuals.
Sorry to say
but ‘incomplete knowledge is dangerous’. You know only few principles of Guru
Gobind Singhji. Let me know if you want me to share the full list of
principles.
4) In
his post, he is a saying that ‘I don’t claim to be a good, practicing Sikh’. Sunny
ji, If you are not practicing Sikh then who are you to suggest practicing Sikhs
about what is wrong or right in Sikhi? I agree that youth arguing with granthi
and management was not practicing Sikh but at least he has courage to say what
is right and what is wrong? What are you doing? Oh forgot, you are creating
controversies and ‘masala’ for news agencies on your Facebook page.
You have a put a
picture of ‘Tiger’ on your Facebook page. I did not mean to troll you but
putting picture of a ‘Tiger’ will not make you tiger. Good that you don’t have
‘Singh’ in your name.
Lastly, it just stuns me that people can go to such
low levels wherein they think that their views are greater than the teachings
and principles of Gurus. Just for few extra ‘Likes’ and ‘Comments’ on Facebook
page, people create unnecessary controversies and create hideous and dubious
posts like Sunny Hundal. Amazing thing is that media and its participants also
pick up views of these individuals and publish them without even double
checking.
The point what I am driving is that Sikhs are not
against interfaith marriages. We are open to interfaith marriages! I have seen
Sikh men getting married to women from other religion. I have also seen Sikh
women getting married to men from other religion. But, blaming Sikhs for
stopping interfaith marriage is wrong. We have no objection to interfaith
marriage in civil court but yes we do have objection to interfaith marriage in ‘Anand
Karaj’ format if bride and groom do not make promise to come closer to Guruji and
follow the path of Sikhi together after marriage.
If you look at the incident then you would see that
youth has stopped interfaith marriage in gurudwara and not in some civil court.
What is the issue, if new generation wants to correct wrong doings of our
previous generation? What problem these ‘so-called’ dubious open minded people
have? Actually, there is no problem, they just want to prove that ‘We live in a
modern world and religion ideologies should change accordingly and suit their
current lifestyle’.
